The following interview is of distinguished psychoanalyst, Rudolf Ekstein, PhD by Daniel Benveniste, PhD, author of The Interwoven Lives of Sigmund, Anna and W. Ernest Freud (2014). The interview took place in Ekstein’s home in Los Angeles on August 10th 1991. Ekstein received his psychoanalytic training in Vienna (1935 to 1938) under Willi Hoffer, August Aichhorn, Anna Freud and others, and continued their pioneering work in education and treatment of severely disturbed, delinquent, and displaced children. The video begins with a brief introduction by Benveniste contextualizing the interview in relation to his wider research on the early history of psychoanalysis in San Francisco.
